The Multiplayer LAN option for the PSP adds to the longevity of the game. The learning curve is slight, and you will be chipping away with the pros in no time. Gameplay for Hot Shots is very intuitive. The PSP’s potential is put to good use here. The characters all have different animations, dependent upon if they pull off a successful Eagle, Chip In Birdie, or Hole in One. Everything from the Swiss Alps to Japan in the Fall. The graphics for Open Tee are incredible. I knew little or nothing about golf when I picked it up, and I was able to play this game well within 15 minutes or so. With over 250 unlockable items and many unlockable characters, it has enough to keep the casual gamer occupied and the more hardcore golfer satisfied. With a $29.99 price tag, it’s an easy buy for anyone who has fallen in love with the Hot Shots Golf series.Hot Shots Golf – Open Tee for the PSP is Sony’s first edition for a handheld to their long running Hot Shots series. Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 is a fine sequel, featuring the great gameplay of its predecessors along with fun new features. Online play runs very smoothly and lag isn’t a problem, letting you use it to test your skills against other diehard players. One of the main draws is its very impressive multiplayer, featuring tournaments for up to 16 players and head-to-head play. You can also customize your equipment, upgrading it to allow for more accurate shots and longer drives. You can change your characters’ clothes or accessorize them with sunglasses, hats and many more things you can unlock while playing through the game. There are 24 different, customizable golfers to play with. While Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 doesn’t try to make any drastic changes, it’s still a worthy entry in the series. There’s nothing stressful about it, just fun and addicting attempts to get low scores. Hot Shots Golf doesn’t try to simulate an actual game of golf in any way, which is part of what makes it so entertaining. By combining simple gameplay mechanics with fun anime-style character design, Hot Shots Golf has become the odd sports franchise that hardcore gamers love. It adds an extra layer of strategy, because if you use them haphazardly to simply extend your shot, you won’t have any left when your ball is wedged in a sand trap and you actually need a little boost. When you turn on a power shot, you get a small boost to your swing. Depending on your character and clubs, you have a certain amount of power shots you can perform every round. Thankfully, the amusing power shots remain in Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2. It seems random at times, requiring too much or too little power to get the ball in the whole if you are on a small slope. No matter how many times you play, you can never figure out where the ball will go when you putt. Unfortunately, it’s still a problem here. One problem that Hot Shots Golf has had in the past is the putting mechanic.

Aside from some new features and updated graphics, the core gameplay hasn’t changed much since the series debuted in 1998. If it ain’t broke, then Hot Shots Golf don’t fix it. Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 takes the game PSP owners have enjoyed since it was released over three years ago, and builds upon it with many new features.
